Day 12 - June 21, 2009 - Beaver Creek to Skagway

This was by far the best day we had for scenery; it was also a good thing the weather cooperated as well. Today we went from Beaver Creek to Haines Junction (Yukon), into BC, over the Haines Highway Pass, into Alaska, to Haines, and finally took a ferry across to Skagway (Alaska).

The day started off a lot windy especially at Destruction Bay Yukon. At Haines Junction we met up with a father/son team (Bob and Zack) again riding motorcycles; we had been bumping into the entire trip. They are from South Carolina and had been riding since June 1 (I think).

Rode thru Kluane Natl Park. It was very scenic. We went by Mt Logan (highest mountain in Canada) but we were unable to see it because it was 100 km off the highway.

The Haines Highway Pass was absolutely beautiful with a huge alpine meadow on top and glacier topped mountains on the other side. We crossed the border at the bottom of the pass into Alaska again. Ate dinner in Haines with the Bob and Zack.

We caught the 10 pm ferry from Haines to Skagway. A one hour ferry ride and we were in Skagway, start of the jouney for most of the gold rushers going to the gold fields around Dawson. Gold rush started in 1898.

Motel tub in Beaver Creek. Whata you think?? Big feet or itty bitty tub.

Riding towards Kluane Natl Park. VERY WINDY!!!

One of many river crossings we went over. Big wide meandering river channels.

Destruction Bay. You cant see the white caps from the winds.
